Although perceived as a land of opportunity, finding work in Canada is quite tough. But, it is not impossible. Job Offers That Can Earn You CRS Points In Canada

It is very important to know the job offers that are considered eligible for CRS points because not all jobs will earn you CRS points. Jobs that are considered valid include:

  • Job offers that are full time and not seasonal
  • Offers that last for at least one year
  • Jobs that are supported by a Positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or LMIA exempt.
  • Job offers at skill level O, A, or B according to the National OccupationalClassification (NOC) system.

To claim points for a job offer, a copy of the written job offer should be provided with details on; position, duties, salary, and condition of employment. Your LMIA or LMIA-exemption should also be provided.

What is a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and why do I need it?

An LMIA is a document that a Canadian employer obtains to hire foreign nationals. This document assesses if hiring foreign nationals will introduce a positive or negative impact on the Canadian labor market

The Canadian employer provides information about their business, the position to be occupied by the foreign national, and evidence that they have tried to employ a Canadian resident or citizen.

The Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) assesses the business to confirm if hiring foreign nationals will introduce a positive or negative impact to the Canadian labor market. A job offer with a positive LMIA is needed to boost your CRS score, but LMIA-exempted jobs are an exception to this rule.

CRS points according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system

The NOC code is a determining factor for the number of points that will be received for a job offer. Points are awarded depending on the skill level of the employee. Canadian job offers with NOC codes 0 (Zero), A, or B are awarded 50 points.

The NOC code can be found by searching the NOC matrix either by using the job title or your industry. Ensure most of the duties listed under the NOC code corresponds with your job description.
